I am a breeder of purebred Gelbvieh cattle. In addition I run a few commercial sheep. I would like to have more sheep but have had a serious predator problem recently. Less sheep with higher quality may be the answer to improve returns on investment.
our site is informative and has aroused my interest in Dorper. However, I would be curious about lambing difficulties encountered with such stocky sheep. Also, my lambing ratio is routinely over 200% with multiple births a given, but not always apprecia
ed when it is triplets and quads.

This is the best website on Dorpers I have come across yet. I found it because I was emailed regarding your book which if it includes all this info and more I am sure to purchase. Mark and I only have 2 Dorpers, 1 male & 1 Female Both white.
We run them with White suffolks. Looking forward to coming back to this page in the future. Keep up the good work. Ta K.

Some of the finest sheep, both rams and ewes, that I've seen anywhere.
I commend you! It's obvious that you care deeply for your animals and the breed as well.
Though I'm not a breeder at this time, I would truely like to be and the Dorpher looks like a noble beast to call ones own and improve upon.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your rams in the future.

ity to withstand the climate. An exciting time for us.Cheers.

We acquired our first Dorpers - 2 unrelated purebred males and 6 grade females - in July of this year, to add to the range of heat tolerant breeds we can offer breeders in the French DOM/TOM - Martinique, Guadeloupe, etc. We already have Boer and Anglo Nu
ian goats. I am very interested to know if breeders in Australia, Canada, the USA or elsewhere are able to export semen and embryos to Europe and France in particular. At the moment, it appears that South Africa and Europe do not have a common health prot
col. I am very impressed with the breed so far and would very much like some new bloodlines.
I am convinced that, with the collapse in wool prices and the current emphasis on extensive systems, the Dorper would be of great interest as well to European breeders. Anyone in Europe or associated areas - the West Indies for example - who is also intere
ted in the breed, please contact me by mail.

I have about 20 acres that I am going to devote to a small livestock operation. I have been planning on raising Boar crossed goats for slaughter. Based on the reading I have done on Dorper sheep, it appears they may have some advantages over goats. Nam
ly, there is more of a market for mutton and lamb than there is goat, the Dorper sheep have almost as varied a diet as goats, and are not as likely to challenge fences.
My concerns are that it appears the Dorpers may be as over priced as the Boars were when they were first introduced, making the initial investment more risky.

My husband and I are long-time sheep raisers and have become very interested in White Dorpers. We farm and raise sheep in the Northern Sacramento Valley of California. Last year we purchased two nice W. Dorper ram lambs and will be adding a third shortl
.
It has been many years since animals of this qualitiy have been available from purebred breeders in this country. We are very interested in any training courses that would be available to sharpen our skills at evaluating these animals. Our region was fo
merly a popular sheep producing area but numbers have dropped in recent years. The area is still well suited and the Dorpers seem to be particularly well adapted.
I hope this message gets through as my local server disconnected me in the middle.

Kathy Lewis

We were very happy to come across your home page! Brian started with sheep 9ys ago, initially he had Ile de France but those were not suited to these conditions and he was not happy with them, 3 yrs later he switched over to Dorpers (10 to be exact) now h
has increased the flock up to 100 and is loving every minute he spends with the sheep. He spends hours reading up about them and was very happy to see your page. We are looking forward to the updates!

I am a future dorper owner. I very much enjoyed your site. The information that you presented was very good. I enjoyed your photo gallary too.
I do not know a lot about sheep but I am convinced that the Dorper is the way to go for anyone who wants a meat animal only. You have added more to that belief, thank you.
Good luck in the future,
Dalan

Great page - I am a rural reporter (ABC Radio) working in outback Queensland, Australia. A listener rang me to find out if I had ever heard of Dorper Sheep so I started a search on the net - and you've given me heaps of background. I love the creativity y
u've used in putting your page together - congratulations. Should you know of any Dorper breeders in Australia a quick email would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Bruce

We are located in the North Western United States. Lots of rain here. Dorpers adapt very well to the wet climate. We only have a few Dorpers now. We are increasing our flock and hope to be able to offer breeding stock for sale soon.
P.S. enjoyed your page.

You have a very informative webpage. Especially enjoyed the pictures and the breed standard of excellence. We have a small flock with a fullblood ram and ewe and about 25 Katahdin ewes for the purpose of obtaining F1 crosses. This is our second lambing
season and so far have been successful in selling our lambs both in the U.S. and abroad. Dorper genetics really add the muscle and we wouldn't raise any other breeds.

Good job, Dolf. It is Christmas eve and we played with our granddaughter. It is cool and rainy. Have about 70 1/2 wit Dorpers out of the Piston son born in the last month. Another 150 ewes bred the same way. They are vigorous lambs even on wet ground and
ool weather (28-45F).Come in July.

Quite the site for a farmer! I am in the process of going out of beef and looking at sheep from different angles. The no-shear breeds are all I will consider for brood stock .Ihave a neighbour who raises St.Croix Hair and is quite sucsessful he must use
orcets or southdowns for a reasonable % dressed weight. This is the first I've seen of Dorpers and they look pretty good .
