In the month of June we resumed our travels to the Northeastern United States with a trip to Norwalk, CT. Where we were fortunate enough to get aboard a charter boat to Sheffield Island.(What Luck..!!) The Lighthouse on Sheffield island is only accessible by private charter or boat during the summer months, Also the Lighthouse on the island is not operational, but is maintained as a museum..Tours are available during the Summer Season. The next day we drove to New Haven CT. to see New Haven Light.( A great public beach with a building that houses a reconditioned Carousel, All in all it was a great place to spend an entire day).
Next we were off to New London CT. .At New London CT. there are two lights very close together. New London Ledge Light is located in the middle of the bay. To view it closer a ferry must be taken which passes the Light. Also there is New London Harbor Light(This Light is privately owned and there is NO TRESSPASSING, but it can be seen from the beach) After a few days of weather we were off to Stonington Harbor CT..This Light is unique because it's been erected out of stone..The Light is maintained by a local historical society (I might add that they have done a spendid job..!) An informative staff narrates historical facts and local items of interest. This is by far one of the best Lighthouses we have visited.

On our way to Cape Cod MA. we drove south to Watch Hill Rhode Island. Finding Watch Hill Light was very difficult, after driving around town 3 times we finally found an entrance road..( The locals said that we could not drive on the road but after walking up a very long steep street we found a worn out sign that said SENIORS and HANDICAPPED persons may drive to Lighthouse). This Light is fenced off by the US Coast Guard , We took photos and left and then walked around the town. We visted one more Light in Rhode Island, Point Judith Light, this too is Private Property but you can get close enough for pictures..

After some well deserved rest we found ourselves on Cape Cod at Wood's Hole where we drove to Nobska Lighthouse , It was a chilly day in June and very windy. Weather aside our view was excellent. This Lighthouse is a must see ..Then after spending the evening in Harwich Port we continued on to Chatham Light.( the eastern most Lighthouse in massachussets) It too was cold and windy but the Light was spectatular. Onward to Cape Cod National Seashore and Nauset Light (Due to beach erosion this this light was moved in '96 and rededicated on May 14th (mother's day) 1997). On the road again near Nauset we saw the "3 sisters" Lighthouses now on PRIVATE PROPERTY..It started to rain severely so that we left without much examination of these interesting lights. The following day proved to be so beautiful that we proceeded to Cape Cod Light . (this light was also moved due to beach erosion in 1996 , A non-profit group help raised money to defray the cost of relocation). Next on our schedule was was Provincetown where three more Lighthouses are visible by binoculars, But you need one of those all-terrain vehicles to get to them, Also they are on National Seashore property and special permission is required to visit them. After a few more days on Cape Cod we decided to start our return back home , But along the way we stopped at one more state to view even more Lighthouses..
