I was strucked by your feature about the Mt. Halcon death incident. The hazards of Tropical Mountaineering, particularly in the Philippine setting, pale in comparison to the dangers of Alpine Climbing. How could a guided climb of members with Mountaineeri g 101 suffer such fate? I suppose, there is a great need for psychological tougness among Filipino mountaineers. It can't be achieved by practicing pampered climbing - with guides and over-reliance on equipment.

very nice site and pics, okey pa rin talaga the magclimb sa visayas not like here sa manila most climbers here are sosyal climbers maarte at takot sa putik and cost too much and still not a very satisfying climb anyway iv seen your caving pics and i woul just like to suggest wearing protective helmet whether its not a very difficult cave since even some people who claimd to be professional cavers or mountaineers get killed because of neglecting safety procedures, i said this since a friend of mine slipped and got a fractured skull and 12 stitchees in the head. always be careful and climb safe.

bong, nice page! nice to know that you are into mountaineering too! maybe you can take me on some treks when I visit again. I'll try to send you sone photos from Gannett Peak (highest peak in Wyoming) We were unable to reach the summit last August, because i was unusually warm, and all the snow bridges were very unstable in the Dinwoody Glacier...crevasses were hard to negotiate... I am attempting the Grand Teton after my wedding. Mayling has not been to any high mountain yet, but she rock-climbs quite a bi with me. We have climbed in Joshua Tree, Taquitz, Donner Summit,Red River Gorge, Seneca Rocks and the Gunks... Maybe you can tell me about the routes back home. I am so psyched to know that we share the same obsessions! By the way, what local packmaker do you recommend? I met a couple Filipino climbers from D.C, and we are planning some Filipino accents in Rain er, the cascades and some peaks in south america. Filipino made packs would add to the effort.
