Here we are at
the edge of the Sacred Falls parking lot.
For your
convenience, there are wonderful blue port-a-potties located at the beginning of the
trail. Gavin, the Port-A-Potty King, had to inspect one to see if it was up to standards.
The port-a-potty met his seal of approval.
After a 15 minute
stroll on an unpaved road, we reached the beginning of the trail.
About an hour
from the parking lot, we reached the falls! Looking up, the sky appears as a blue
ribbon. Along the sides are the steep walls of the valley face. What beauty, what splendor,
what a big crowd!
The Story:
Despite living on the island for practically all my life,
I have never been to Sacred Falls. It's weird how you
take the island for granted when you actually live here!
Anyway, when we arrived in the parking lot, there were
already a few cars. The sun was shining bright, and it
was getting hot. We took some pictures by the Sacred
Falls sign and headed up to the trail.
The first thing that I noticed were the porta-potties on
the right. This is good to know if you gotta go!
We walked around the gate and headed up the level unpaved
road. We walked and walked. Then we walked somemore. Finally,
we arrived at an open grassy area with two park benches
(point B in Ball's book).
We proceeded up on the trail, meeting many people coming from
the falls. After climbing gradually, we reached the waterfall
and swimming hole. It took about an hour to get there, walking
at a leisurely stroll and taking some breaks for pictures.
The waterfall was flowing very slowly. It was very peaceful
there, despite the already present crowd. I wondered what
lay beyond the waterfall.
After eating some snacks and taking some pictures, we decided
to head back.
We arrived at the parking lot at about 12 noon. The parking
lot was FULL! This is a good example of the early bird getting
the worm... or the parking stall.
Notes:
This hike is very popular. It is also nice, quick, and easy and
a good place to take friends who are visiting the islands.
