As TV was to my life in the 80's, Music was to my life in the 90's. After June of 1990, I elementary school and was preparing for the world of high school. Since I ended up going to a different high school than the one my elementary school friends went to, I met what I felt was an entirely different people - the "Hong Kong people". It was during this decade that I came to really understand and appreciate my cultural background and race. March 1990 was spent in Hong Kong. I came to know who "Wong Fei Hong" (黃飛鴻) is. My chinese language skills improved dramatically. And 1990-1995 was my era of music for the 90's. In fact, it was the music era of my life. I was very happy. So many of Leon Lai's songs were my favorites. When I was in HK, my cousin Frances gave me an Alan Tam tape from I think 1989. When I came back to Canada, I would listen to the tape with the Sansui walkman that she also gave me while looking at the photos again and again. I would listen to songs like 朋友 (friend), 幻影 (illusion), and 霧之戀 (romance of the fog). Other favorite chinese songs then were Hacken Lee's 藍月亮 (blue moon), Chris Wong's 情深緣淺, and of course the other three "4 Kings".
