Recently Jessy Cruz and Roberto "El Gallo Fino" Hernandez fought at the Police Athletic League Amateur Boxing Tournament.
The event featured the most talented amateur boxers Florida had to offer, and was not going to be a walk in the park.
Making weight would prove to be an easy task.  Both boxers were in excellent condition.  Jessy Cruz was scheduled to fight in the 119 pound

division, but no one else would be there that weekend at that weight.  So, showing his warrior spirit, Jessy ate a couple of Burgers and set his sights on the 125 pound opposition.
With a determined focus and amazing will, Jessy tore through his first opponent like a tiny tornado with fluid combinations, constant pressure, and an appetite for destruction.  Jessy would prove to be too much for his heavier opponent.  After the final bell rang Jessy stood the winner of a Unanimous Decision, proving that it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.
Next up was Robert "El Gallo Fino" Hernandez.  Robert entered the ring with intention and enough gas in his tank to get to China.  Facing a more experienced opponent he connected with lefts and rights while displaying his ability to out run, out punch, and just out last his opponent.
Unfortunately, the judges didn't see it that way, and Robert lost on points.  A decision that the crowd did not agree with.
Jessy was now ready for the Championship match.  He faced off with the promoter's nephew.  A definite clash of interest in my opinion.
With what seemed to be a sympathetic referee for Jessy's opposition he was warned, and warned again, for avoiding his opponent's punches.  But with his fierce style, the tiny tornado proved he was too much for his heavier opponent.
Congratulations Jessy "Tiny Tornado" Cruz.  The new P.A.L. Florida State Champion.
In other News, I would like to thank all the trainers, training patners, and especially Hansel, who never ever gets any sleep, for their hard work in helping these fighters to prepare.  Thank you, and I'll see you next time.
