Who Are We?
Yard is managed and staffed by local people, dedicated to improving lives in their own communities. Thanks to their local background, Yard staff are in-touch with the problems and needs of the people they serve.
Sebastian Maina Wambugu
Project manager
Sebastian is Yard's general manager, responsible for overall coordnation of the group's activities, fund sourcing and staff management.
Alongside his managerial duties, Sebastian spends much of his time visiting local community groups and attending training events and meetings


Joseph Gachi Nganga
Project officer, community programmes
Joseph's duties include the mobilization of communities to help orphans and vulnerable children, raising awareness of AIDS/HIV, and working towards improved access to information and knowledge.
He is also involved with improving the utilization and management of existing resources.
Godfrey Githinji Waweru
Project officer, community programmes
Godfrey's duties include the mobilization of communities to help orphans and vulnerable children, raising awareness of AIDS/HIV, and working towards improved access to information and knowledge.
She is also involved with improving the utilization and management of existing resources.
Susan Wairimu Ndungu
Project officer, education programmes
Susan is responsible for providing educational support to orphans and other vulnerable children.
She is responsible for the administration and monitoring of the Sherman Family Fund for providing education to disadvantaged youths.
Susan also staffs the Yard Community Resource Centre when not in the field.
Joseph Ndiritu Kigo
Project officer, SFMAP project
Joseph provides training to groups of small scale farmers regarding financial management, savings and other economic issues.
He facilitates a loan scheme and provides group coordination.
He is also involved with group based water-storage projects.
Johnny Finnity
Project officer, SFMAP project
Johnny provides training to groups of small scale farmers regarding financial management, savings and other economic issues.
He facilitates a loan scheme and provides group coordination.
He is funded by the US Peace Corps.
Jack Wainana
Project officer, SFMAP project
Jack's principal role is the linking of small scale rural farmers to potential markets, thereby obtaining them a fair price for their produce.
He also provides an information link between organizations such as KOAN and the farming community.
Janet Wangeci Karimi
Project officer, Gatanga Integrated Home-Based Children Supprt Project
Janet works towards improving the quality of life of vulnerable local children, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS. Her work also aims to empower those who care for these children.
Fresiah Wangari Karanja
ICT officer
Fresiah is responsible for daily running and maintenance of the Yard IT facility and for providing training and tutoring in the use of computers.
Miriam Wanjiku Muoriah
Administrator/Receptionist
Miriam is responsible for the daily administrative tasks of the group and maintaining the front-desk presence.
She deals with public enquiries.
