Donate your time and expertise volunteering in Kenya

We currently have openings in our volunteer programme. We seek enthusiastic motivated individuals to come and join our community for a period of weeks or months and contribute to Yard's work in the following areas:

-Teaching English at local schools and adult groups.
-Promoting HIV/AIDS awareness issues.
-Improving sustainable agriculture schemes.
-Assisting in schemes to provide care and education to orphaned children.
We have hosted a variety of volunteers over the recent years with great success. We are now looking to expand this and provide continuous placements for volunteers.

A daily working schedule will be organized in accordance the indiviual's specific skills and interests. This is a fantastic opportunity to become imersed in a vibrant local culture, in a stunning part of the world and to provide potentially life-changing assistance to vulnerable and underprivelaged people.

We are particularly interested in finding TEFL qualified volunteers and also people with sound knowledge of AIDS issues or experience of group training. Most important is a willingness to give your efforts enthusiastically to help the community.

There is no set placement length. The length of the placement will be discussed with the individual volunteer, but we would prefer a committment to at least 3 months.

FEES

We ask a £200 fee for each 3 month period. This money goes towards the running of YARD, consumables, bills, staff wages etc. You will be amazed at how far we can make our money go!

There is also a modest fee of £35 per fortnight for volunteers wishing to live in private accomodation. If you choose this option, you will be responsible for your own meals laundry etc.

Alternatively for £30 per fortnight, volunteers can be hosted by a local family, and included in their daily life. Your money would go towards your full upkeep.

The initial £200 is payable in advance and is a non-refundable payment. The subsequent payments and the accomodation charge can be paid locally in either Sterling, USD, Euro or the current equivalent in Kenyan Shillings.

To find out more, please contact Tom Ashton tjashton@gmail.com for an informal chat. I am a former Yard volunteer and currently assisting to establish this scheme from the UK.
