Hello and welcome to another project--one of my web pages. My life is full of projects. After rebuilding a duplex for about 5-6 years and getting over, I turned my attention to collecting some old cars and parts. If you came to see some complete cars, you'll be disappointed as yet--just more projects. The picture to the right is something you don't see very often. It's a NOS factory 1/4 panel for the left side of a 1968 convertible GTO or 68/69 Lemans convertible. This is the only one I know of (that's not installed). I bought it with a couple of GTOs a couple years ago--online. The previous owner intended to put it on the red conv GTO posted below. He must have bought it long ago or got it with the car because these things are all but impossible to find now. I like owning such a rarity, so I may just hang on to it to it for a while. These have been out of production forever. Until a couple of years ago, GM still had some HARDTOP 1970 GTO 1/4s in stock for a little over $500 but now go for $1000-1400 for reference. Is this one worth 2500? Most people say yes. EDIT: The panel has now been sold as of Dec 2004. |

(Above) This was my 1st Pontiac. This is the bad side of a 69 Lemans convertible I bought in '93 for $2250. It LOOKED good then--different door and no dents. The top had been installed wrong and it had 2 rips at the bottom when it was stretched shut. It needed a radiator, battery and new cables. It originally came with a 350cid 2 bbl, 350 automatic, a/c, power disc brakes, p-windows, p-steering, tinted glass, courtesy lighting, parchment buckets, remote mirror, console, and Espresso brown exterior with a white top. Now it has a '71 400 GTO motor with #16s heads & 400 trans. I have a correct coded '69 350 eng/trans for it if I decide to go back that route. I knew this car had been hit and not fixed right when I got it, but it was really funny when it was opened up for evaluation. We found rebar, window screen, PAPER and over a gallon of filler in it. It had been T-boned on the pass side and then resprayed Carousel Red after a patch job. I'm guilty of crunching that rear corner-don't ask. It sat for a year with no work done to it. |

UPDATE: shop has rehired a body man to finish the nubmerous cars that are sitting around undone, so we'll see if they can straighten out mine this spring (2003). |
UPDATE: Purchased a better door, the bodyman has it in primer, the 1/4 has been removed, the rear jamb has been removed, the inner 1/4 window area has been removed. |
Update: The bodyman has been fired and I have fired the shop owner. The car is going to a competitor to correct the bad body pull on the rear and I'll do some of the work myself before the 1/4 skin goes on. MIke Mize of Mize Auto is full of crap. Tells ya what ya wanna hear and delivers none of it. I feel sorry for the guy who paid good money to him to replace the 1/4s in his blue 72-73 Camaro. They had to use a nail gun to pull all the dents out of the rear 1/4s after a "mechanic" warped the new ones. The guy probably doesn't know about all the Bondo to hide the botched repairs either. |
