Why?
During the first part of our travel through south and Central America we have had a fantastic time and seen very much. It was also our first experience with poverty: Slums, beggars and especially the children. Trying to gain some money by begging, shoe polishing or by selling some candy to foresee in their daily needs. For this reason they don't go to school and thereby in their very early stage their range of the perspective of their future is already stipulated. Probably they will do never something else in their life.... Cycling through These areas is very confronting. Compared to them we are so rich... But as a individual we are you can do nothing about it. Buying or giving them something won't change a thing and makes it probably worse. Tomorrow they will be there on the same street instead of going to schools. This made us decide to look for some kind of project, in witch is focused on aid to children and education so we could raise money for it with the second part of our journey. Our kilometres must become EURO'S !! In co-operation with the OXFRAM- Netherlands we have selected the Indian organisation SACCS. An organisation who fights against Child-Labour. And at the time we are in India we are also visiting the project on the site.!!!You will understand it by now, we need your help... Beside our friends an relatives and a number of companies which we will approach, we hope particularly on contributions of people who visit our site and who are prepared to donate some amount of money to every km we are going to cycle. Half a penny, 2 pennies or even five..? These small amounts mean a lot for these children and gives them a new future. Therefore support us and fill in this form!! One our way the amount will incur and on this site we regularly report the score. At the end of our ride we will inform all our donors who can directly transfer the money to Oxfram-Netherlands.
Thanks in advance!!!

The Project
Mukti Ashram is a project for rehabilitation of children which are freed by the "South Asian Coalition on Child Servitude" or Saccs, an organisation which fight against child labour especially the cases of bonded labour. Where kids work in very unhealthy conditions, and for very little, or no, pay away from their parents. Saccs informs parents, because many parents do not know about the risks witch are involved when entrusting there children to crimps. At the request of the parents Saccs tries to free these children from their terrible situation. Saccs also exercises pressure to the (local) government. Although bonded labour is forbidden it takes often continuous pressure, to move a local government to admit that there are cases of bonded labour on there aria and accompanying them in releasing the children. Saccs have meanwhile freed 55,000 children in this fantastic manner and taken care of. They also work to improve the position of the parents so that they do not have to cede their children because of poverty. These released children often are Trembling with fear, they do not seem to trust humans as they only know humans as contractors who beat them and sexually harass their women. The concept of buses, trains, schools and television are alien for them. Of course, all of them are unlettered. The released child labourers are being transitorily rehabilitated at the BBA (SACCS)'s rehabilitation centre the Mukti Ashram. Here they take part in a rehabilitation programme of six months. They speak about there traumatic experiences. They learn to look after themselves, to cook, get an education and learning a profession which they can use later in their own surroundings.
Although the number of child labourers is decreasing, there are in India still about 60 million children involved. Working 16-19 hours per day under bad conditions. World-wide is even 246 million.
