Paraguay, Asuncion 17th august 2002 Finally a sign from a very hot and sunny Asuncion (the capital of Paraguay). Well, we didn?t sit still the last few weeks. The border/frontier between Brazil and Paraguay is one of the most hectic and most fascinating ones we have ever experienced. Between honking busses, cars, millions of scooters and ladies with chickens in their handbag we tried to get our way through. But we managed and after a few hours we pedalled with a brand-new stamp in our passport hoping for roads with less traffic..
Ten hot sunny days later, with 700 km in our legs we agreed together we're gone leave a fantastic country. Time has standing still at the Paraguay country-side but in spite of the poverty people seem to be happy in a way. Music sounds everywhere and the atmosphere is very relax. Car and truckdrivers honking and waving to us all day through. Great! Paraguay people are just as helpful and friendly as the Brazilians (only less exotic) so we also enjoyed great hospitality. We got invited for a wedding meal and even that the communication was very poor (we didn?t speak any Spanish yet) we had a fantastic night, and met some fantastic warm people. We cycled from Ciudad del este, via Encarnation in the south to the capital Asuncion where the heat hits you in the face and we miss the countryside already. Twenty-five percent of the population lives here and we will spend a week to join a Spanish course. After 20 hours of Spanish lessons we hope we get a little base to continue for the rest of South America. Argentina, here we come,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |
