THE TV SHOW

This part of the guide pretty much caters to the PEOPLE of the Pokémon, whether they're in the Kids' WB cartoon or the game.

ASH KETCHUM-

An up-and-coming 14-year old Pokémon trainer from the town of Pallett. Thought quite stupid at first glance, Ash posesses the potential to become a fantastic trainer. His first Pokémon was a Pikachu that posesses greater electric potential than a Raichu(Hmmm, maybe Ash used a GAMESHARK?). He cares deeply for his Pokémon, and they care about him as well. It is his goal to become the world's greatest trainer and defeat his rival, Gary Oak. Already, Gary and Ash have battled once and Ash lost. He's now more determined than ever to defeat Gary. Ash was in the top 16 of the Pokémon League, and he earned a place in the Orange League Hall Of Fame. His current Pokémon include Pikachu, Swellow, Treecko, Corphish, Torkoal, Glalie, Bulbasaur, Heracross, Bayleef, Totodile, Cyndaquil, Phanpy, a shiny Noctowl, Snorlax, Kingler, Muk and a herd of Tauros. At earlier times he had a Butterfree, Charizard, Squirtle, Primeape, Pidgeot and Lapras.

ASH'S PALS

In the Pokémon cartoon, Ash is joined by four other people in his quest to become the world's best Pokémon Trainer. These people don't always stay with Ash, and some go away for a while, but these are all the traveling companions he's had since he started his quest.

Brock, Misty, Tracey and ToddMISTY

A 14-year old, spunky girl who Ash has known the longest of his friends. After Pikachu fried her bicycle, she followed Ash everywhere, waiting for when he replaces her bike. When the group reaches Cerulean City, she reveals herself as the Gym Leader and Ash and she battle. It comes down to a draw, and Ash gets his Cascade Badge. Over the seasons, she has grown fond of Ash and is now a loyal companion. Misty has an infatuation with Water-type Pokémon, but the party found her Togepi at an archeological dig. Since Misty was the first thing it saw when it was born, Togepi regarded Misty as its mother and decided to stay with her. Her Pokémon are presently Staryu, Goldeen, Psyduck, Corsola, Politoed, Azurill, and Gyarados. She also has a Horsea and Starmie at the Cerulean Gym under the care of her sisters. At one time, she had a Togepi.

BROCK

The 17-year old leader of the Pewter Gym wants to become the world's greatest Pokémon breeder, so he joins Ash in hopes of learning more about Pokémon. With his mom dead and his dad MIA, Brock was forced to play nanny for his nine siblings until his dad came home and resumed command of the Pewter Gym. When Ash, Misty and he arrived in the Orange Islands, Brock decided to stay with Professor Ivy, the Islands' most prominent Pokémon researcher, and quite a looker, too. For some reason, Brock went back to Pallet after a few months and awaited Ash's return. There, he rejoined Ash and Misty as they began their quest through Johto. Brock is quite the ladies' man(more like he's addicted to women), and his Pokémon are Forretress, Lombre, and Mudkip. He also has a Geodude, Onix and Crobat back at his home.

MAY

May is a 14 year-old just starting out on her Pokémon quest, but the truth is that she's more interested in travel and adventure. Once her bike was fried by Pikachu, she immediately took a liking to Ash and decided to accompanying him through Hoenn. She balances her time between shopping, getting into trouble and keeping her younger brother Max out of it. She presently resides at her home. Her Pokémon are Combusken, Skitty, Bulbasaur, Munchlax, and Beautifly.

MAX

May's little brother is always bubbling over with facts and info about his favorite subject, Pokémon. His clever antics get him into plenty of scrapes, however. Fortunately, he's smart enough to find a way out. He has no Pokémon currently, but he's the group navigator and always tries to keep Ash and company on the right track.

TODD

Todd, the 15-year old star of the Nintendo 64's POKÉMON SNAP, was hired by Team Rocket to supposedly 'capture' Pikachu. Todd thought that they wanted him to take a picture, so he stalked Ash, Misty and Brock until they finally discovered him. After saving Ash's life and getting a swell shot of his friends, Todd stayed with the group until they reached the boat for Cinnabar Island. He then headed up into the mountains to snap some more Pokémon. Later, he rejoined the team in hopes of locating an Articuno. He has no Pokémon, but his camera is a valuable asset.

TRACEY SKETCHITT

A wandering 16-year old Pokémon watcher(similar to bird watching) who runs into Ash and Misty in the Orange Islands. Attracted by the thought of meeting the "Great Professor Oak," Tracey decides to join Ash and Misty until they reach Pallet Town once again. Once in Pallet, he stays on as Professor Oak's assistant. Tracey is a skilled artist and carries around many notebooks of sketches of Pokémon and other strange things. He mimics Brock in his attraction to pretty girls, but he acts with more... subtlety. His Pokémon are Venonat, Scyther and Marill.

GARY OAK

Ash's Archrival, and Professor Oak's grandson. This kid gets on your nerves so fast, it's scary. He started on his Pokémon journey with an Eevee and a band of cheerleaders, who added to his arrogance. It's pretty easy to see why most of the people he runs into are irritated by his big ego and nasal way of talking. He uses any excuse he can and every chance he gets to make Ash and company(yes, Gary believes that if they're Ash's friends, they're losers too, even though two of Ash's pals are Gym Leaders) look like moronic failures, including insulting Ash publicly on stage at a live-audience gathering(Geez, no matter how bad this jerk loses to some better trainer, it won't be unpleasant enough.). Gary loses some decisive battles, though; first against Giovanni and his Mewtwo, then at the Pokémon League. But even though those fights gave him a licking, Gary keeps on ticking. He isn't present anywhere in the Orange Islands, but he comes back to Pallet in time to save Oak's Lab from Team Rocket and battle Ash one-on-one. He then ventures into Johto to compete in the Johto League. Gary has over 200 Pokémon, so I don't know all of them, but so far we know he has Blastoise, Magmar, Scizor, Umbreon, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Arcanine and Doduo.

PROFESSOR SAMUEL OAK

Gary Oak's grandfather, Ash's mentor and Tracey's role model. Oak does little more than coach Ash and his friends as they travel throughout the world, but he is the one that keeps Ash's reserve Pokémon at his immense lab. Heck, he stores every Pokémon from every trainer who's ever left on their quest from Pallet Town. Oak also knows some famous people that he refers Ash and company to; Professor Ivy, Bill the Pokémaniac, Kurt the Pokéball expert, Professor Westwood and Professor Elm. Though he caters to both Ash and Gary, it's hard to say which one he likes better. Oak was the one who gave Ash his Pikachu and all of his first Pokédex equipment, so he must be a technology whiz. He also came to the Pokémon League Tournaments to root for Ash. Presently, he is keeping Kingler, Muk, Snorlax, Bulbasaur and the herd of Tauros for Ash at his lab.

RICHIE

A boy of Ash's age that the party runs into at the Pokémon League Tournament. Richie is a lot like Ash in that he uses about the same Pokémon that Ash does. Ash and Richie must duel in the tournament, and Ash loses due to his disobedient Charizard, but Ash and Richie make a promise to become Pokémon Masters no matter what. Chances are that Richie will appear in Johto. His Pokémon include Pikachu, Butterfree, Pupitar and Charmeleon.

TEAM ROCKET (AKA The Rocket Society)

The organization of Team Rocket will stop at nothing to collect rare and unusual Pokémon. Their leader, Giovanni, decides to stage a raid on Viridian City just as Ash and company reach the town. Giovanni dispatches Jessie and James to take control of the Pokémon Center. Fortunately, Ash is on hand to stop them. That's when the team decides to steal his Pikachu, which is stronger than any Pikachu in existance (maybe Ash used a GAMESHARK code?) and that's why they're following the party all over. Below is a brief description of each member.

JESSIE

Obviously the leader of the Rocket Division that stalks Ash. Born in the slums of some town and raised in a poor area, Jessie boasts a bad attitude and a vain nature. Her Pokémon are Wobbuffet, Seviper and Dustox. At one time, she had an Arbok, Shellder and Lickitung.

JAMES

James was raised in a filthy-rich family, but fled the house when he was forced into an arrainged marriage with a terrible woman and joined up with the Rockets. He's very vain, but he's also wimpier and less vicious than Jessie. His Pokémon is Cacnea, and he has a Growlithe (named Growly) at his family's house. At one time, he had a Weezing and Victreebell.

MEOWTH

This Meowth is the only Meowth around that can actually speak the human language. Born in conditions similar to Jessie's, Meowth has lived a bad life until he joined up with the Rockets. He's more of a pain in the butt than a fighter.

BUTCH AND CASSIDY

These Rockets are higher-up on the Rocket food chain and are in better standing with Giovanni. They don't show up very often, but when they do, they're much worse than Jessie and James; they play for much higher stakes than one Pikachu. Cassidy has a Raticate and Hitmontop, and Butch has a Primeape and Houndour. They seem to share a Drowzee.

DELIBIRD

The Rockets' fund collector. It shows up to harrass Jessie and James into paying their member dues, but usually ends up fighting Ash and company for them.
