2002: WHAT I'VE READ SO FAR
JANUARY: THE VAMPIRE LESTAT by ANNE RICE
A life story of a gorgeous young vampire, who made his first appearance in the Interview with the Vampire. It's the intriduing tale of a young boy's struggle to escape his mediocre existence. In this twisted coming-of-age story, there is something for everyone... Love, romance, loneliness, friendship, murder, vampires... Anne Rice's story-telling is amazingly mermerizing and magnificently thrilling. This book is unforgettable!
FEBRUARY: THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED by ANNE RICE
A story of Lestat's reincarnation as a rock star, seeking attention, fame, and recognition. Unwillingly,Lestat awakens the Mother of All Vampires from her six-millenia slumber and unleashes the wave of terror, violence, and murder. In this book, Anne Rice skillfully creates several parallel worlds, and describes universes within universes. Overall, a really good book!
MARCH: LOST SOULS by POPPY Z. BRITE
A story of a lonely young boy looking for a place to belong and someone to love. A story of three vampires on a murderous journey through time. A story of a love triangle, betrayal, and obsession. Poppy Z. Brite steps away from the original romantic portrayal of the vampires. This book is a fascinating and thrilling tale, full of raw and gory detail. I reallly enjoyed it!
APRIL: GETTING TO YES by ROGER FISHER AND WILLIAM URY
A book provides lessons necessary for successful negotiation and conflict resolution. It is valuable for anyone who wonders what to do during a dispute or a disagreement. It doesn't give any special tricks, but instead provides an overall approach to conflict resolution. Overall, a pretty good book!
APRIL: GETTING PAST NO by WILLIAM URY
A book shows that disagreement and conflict are a part of daily life, and that it is crucial to develop strong negotiating skills. The author provides five easy steps that are proven to hepl you get past NO in just about any situation. The overall motto of the book is: "Bring them to their senses, not to their knees!" I find this book not only interesting, but also very helpful!
APRIL: CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES by JOHN KENNEDY TOOLE
This book is billed one of the funniest, but I actually found it boring and somewhat stupid. It is sad though how Ignatius, the main character, treats his mother. he book reads like a torture... If I did not vow to finish every book I start reading, I would have given up about 10 pages in.
JUNE: AMERICAN GODS by NEIL GAIMAN
MAY: TALE OF A BODY THEIF by ANNE RICE
A fascinating tale of Lestat's search for humanity, this book is a woderful gem in the Vampire Chronicles.
In this book, Lestat gives up the eternity for a brief moment to experience being mortal once more. His experience turns out to be less than he expected. You will love him, then you will hate him, and then love him yet again. Rice's writing is mezmerising, It's a nice summer read! :)
By far the best book I've read this year! I could not put it down!
Gaiman explores the world of American folklore, and the various religions and spiritual prctices brought to our shores by the immigrants throughout the years... His story telling is magnificent, and the subject matter really makes you stop and wonder.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
