I am presently a PhD student in the Research Center for Solar Energy Chemistry, Department of Materials Engineering Science at Osaka University, Japan, where I have been living since October 2005. Narrowly speaking, I am working on photocatalytic system which actually harvesting solar light as energy source for chemical energy conversion. My interest lies primarily in the area of delicate nanomaterial synthesis by the means of photocatalysis. If you are interested in what am I learning now and past, please see my Learning & Research. |
I was more a talker than a listener when I was young but things do change. I can get on well socially with most people but am not a big partygoer. I take time to get closer and get familiar with new friend. Therefore, don`t be surprised while I have much to talk with you one day, it just simply because we get closed. I have a lot of recreational interests that most people have --- reading, going for movies, sleeping and occasionally watching TV. When I was in Malaysia, I went to theater once a fortnight or once a month for having fun, entertained and released. The price is just affordable for a student like me. However, a movie ticket at student price in Japan cost about 1200yen (about RM40) which I could used to watch 7 times in Malaysia. This keeps me far from cinema nowadays. I do a lot of reading and things that I like to read and occasionally talk about include philosophy, politics, sociology, history, economics, current affairs and science generally. I used to extremely fond of science-fiction novel during my early secondary school. I wonder this kind of scientifically unproved story-line did play a significant role in modeling my way of thinking during the age I started to explore the world inside me. I began interested in science subjects in school, particularly chemistry. After all, I knew that science is ideed practical rather than simply a story. |
Until this stage, you may think of that I am kind of `book-worm`, doing nothing but studying and reading for all my time. However, it is just not that case. I was extremely active in extra-curricular in my high school time. I was the president of Astronomy Society, president of Maths and Science Society and also I was a state-representative in cadet police. I have organized a lot of star-observation nights to share the knowledge and opinions with some Malaysian astronomers and my juniors; held science exhibition and having lectures to my society`s members. As a cadet police, I went through countless physical training and camping throughout my country during my high school period. |
After completing my undergraduate degree in Industrial Chemistry in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, I received the Malaysia National Science Fellowship (NSF) to further my master degree in Ibnu Sina Institute for Fundamental Science Studies (IIS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in chemistry certainly. Here, I met with two significant mentors who indeed widely open my eyesight into scientific community: Prof. Dr. Halimaton Hamdan and Dr. Hadi Nur. As my supervisors for master degree, they inspired me and introduced me me what actually research is about and what are the differences and secrets lie between the chemistry text books and laboratory works. Upon graduating in July 2005, I came to Osaka University in that October for my PhD study on the MONBUSHO scholarship offered by Japan Ministry of Education. Life in Japan is totally a different and new for me, I am experiencing something exciting that I couldn`t have in Malaysia. Therefore, if you are interested, keep updating with me in the Topics. |
