There are very little "hard" facts concerning Uncle Lem.  I thus far have only been able to locate him once in the census, living in the home of his Great Aunt MJ Yearout and her husband Lewis Elbert Williams.

Page 28 Stamped page, district 21, year 1880
Lewis E. Williams 45 Miller
Mary J. 48 (Yearout married 23-Nov-1854)
Lemuel Yearout 15 nephew
Lizzie Hankins 21 servant

Lemuel was born 1865, to Edney Yearout, his mother being only 17 years of age.  Family stories say that he was a child of rape by an Anderson man in Maryville.  The story goes on to say that Edna's brothers took vengence on the Anderson man,  making it appear to be an ambush.  This was most likely easy to pull off as it was post Civil War.
Lemuel is listed as the child of William Rankin and Myra McCully Yearout, but this information is totally incorrect.  Most of the older family still remembers Uncle Lem & my
mother spoke often of her Uncle Lem.
Lemuel married Maggie Norris in Knox County, September 4, 1890, once again listed as the son of WR and Maggie Yearout.
The family of his brother,
William Marsh Yearout tell me some very interesting facts concerning Lemuel.  He lived in Maryville, Knoxville and Chattanooga, working as a bellhop in the latter city.    In the He also lost a leg in a train accident, and he attended Maryville College.  he was raised by Lewis and MJ Yearout Williams, and was given a really good raising.  Lemuel married Maggie Norris 04-Sep-1890, Knox County, Tennessee.
Children listed:
Mary Pearl Yearout born Feb. 1893
John H. Yearout born Sept. 1894
Charles L. Yearout born 1898
Elzie Irene Yearout born 1900
Lelis Yearout born 1895
Edna Yearout born 1903
Thus far i have been unable to either prove ot disprove most of my information, other then what the family has told me.  If anyone has info concering anyone in this list, please do not hesitate to make contact.  You will be given full credit for your information.
Census report 1870, Blount County, TN shows Lemuel living with his great grandparents,
John and Martha Raulston Yearout.  John is listed as age 75, farm labor, Martha as age 73, housekeeper.  Lemuel is 5, which confirms his birthdate as 1865.

Knoxville Sentinal    Thursday, September 18, 1902

Alzie Irene the three year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lemuel Yearout, died this morning at the home of her parents, in the eighth District of Blount County.  Scarlett fever was the cause.  The remains will be laid out ot rest Friday morning at 11 oclock at the Bethel Luteran Church near Mount Olive, south of the river.  The services will be conducted by Rev. John C. Miller, pastor of the church.
Lemuel was my Great Uncle.  I would love to meet the cousins if any are left.
I have at long last located the death record of Uncle Lem.  Certificate 18901
Knoxville, Knoxville General Hospital
Mr. Lemuel Yearout, white male married: Maggie Yearout.
Born April 18, 1865, age at death, 63 years, 4 months, 4 days.
Profession: Tinner, worked at occupation 9 years.
Cause of death: Hypertension & Congestive Cardiac Failure.
Undertaker: Donohue
Parents listed: Henry Yearout & Edna Norris.
The parents listed threw me some.  He is well remembered in my family.  Source was Salvation Army, which helped some in acknowledging possible misinformation.

Have had a bit more information sent to me:

Tealon, aka Tealous, Telis, Lelis  His draft card was sent to me by Jackie Ginn which lists him as having a leg off.  It seems highly unlikely that both Lemuel and his son had a missing leg, seems there is a grain of truth in these old stories, even though they are not exactly as heard.  Draft Card 884, #31, gives his address as 202 W. Front, Knoxville, TN. Born August 12, 1895, single, medium height, slender, black hair, blue eyes.

John Yearout's draft card was sent to me by Margaret Lemanski.  It lists John as born September 22, 1895, address 422 Baxter Ave., Knoxville, TN, carnival worker with Frank Michaels (?), married, Gray Eyes, black hair, short, medium build.  The years have to be off somewhat.  According to the obituary of Lemuel, John had relocated to Michigan.  If anyone can provide further enlightenment, please do so.

Misconceptions:
Uncle Lem is listed on the
Howell Research pages as the son of William Rankin & Myra McCully Yearout.  I wrote Coleen, the contact for this page and we went round and round over this listing.  She was just too argumentive to even discuss why her info was wrong on the www.  She was not interested in the proof I have, refusing to even let me send her a scan of Uncle Lem's death certificate which clearly lists his parents as Edna and unreadable Yearout.

I am glad to see on further reference that after my constant e-mails that Lemuel is not longer listed on rootsweb other then with Jackie Ginn who gladly received my proof of just "who" Lemuel Yearout was.
