2001 Haunted House Reviews
My rating is in brackets.

***** - Awesome!!  Get in line for it immediately!!
**** - Very good!  A must see.
*** - Pretty good.  Could be better.
** - Dull.  I’ve seen FAR better, yet the attempt was there.
* - Crap-tastic!!  Avoid at all costs.  Save your money for a real Dark Attraction!!!

Terror on Rural Street (*****) - One of the best I’ve been to!!!!  The castle facade that adorns the entrance while you wait in the queue is incredible.  But when the big castle drawbridge opens by with a creak and smoke and fog billow out of the front of it, you know you’re in for a real treat!!!!  Lots of cool effects utilizing pneumatics and hydraulics make this haunt stand out.  One of my favorites!!

Six Flags Fright Fest (****) - Every October the northern Illinois theme park, Six Flags Great America turns the festivities over to the undead, who roam about the massive graveyards during the evening’s happenings.  All the gut wrenching rollercoaster rides that I stay away from are fully operational.  But for us Haunt fans they have two Haunted Houses as well as a couple of shows to catch.  Both the Haunted Houses weren’t all that long to go through, but they did have some cool effects and good atmosphere.  The Mausoleum of Terror, located in the Necropolis, the spookiest part of the park, is pretty good, but a little quick and too dark to really get a grip on what’s going on.  The Haunted Boarding House in the Old West area of the park is far more visually fun.  Lots of atmosphere and hydraulics, yet again, not that long.   Then there’s the Train Ride around the park featuring The Legend of Pig Man.  Basically this guy with an engineers’ outfit and pig mask ends up popping up at certain stops along the train rout.  There’s also a story line that goes with the Pig Man which is kind of clever.  The whole atmosphere of the park is creepy with people dressed as vampires and other various types of the undead walking about and mingling with visitors.  The WHOLE park is designed to look like a giant graveyard with body parts and corpses lying all over the place.  The ambience is worth 3 stars alone.  If you’re a Halloween Lover that has a chunk of change to get rid of (it’s expensive!) check out Fright Fest.
