In form Queenslander Pete Byers successfully defended his Formula Xtreme Nakedbike championship by wrapping up the 2001 series at Eastern Creek.

Byers has dominated the growing Formula Xtreme Nakedbike class which is open to slightly modified production motorcycles between 800-1300cc.

He captured the inaugural 2000 Formula Xtreme Nakedbike title on a Kawasaki ZXR1100 despite missing the first round.

"The bike ran flawlessly throughout the year, as it did last year," Byers said.

"We haven’t had a single engine failure in nearly 40 races.

"We can attribute that to an experienced team and the right lubricant package."
These are photos of 'Naked Bike' class riders Peter Byers (1) and Michael Thomas (2) in the Formula Extreme Championship, run in Australia.  Both Kawasaki ZRX1100 mounted, the flying green machines put out 150 plus horsepower and both recorded lap times in the one minute 38 second category - it was truly awesome to watch these big street bikes battling it out around the 3.93km Eastern Creek circuit.
Reliability and performance are the keys to motorsport success and Byers has experienced plenty of both.

His Kawasaki produces over 110kW at 10,700rpm and is capable of 285kmh.

He currently holds the lap records at each of the five circuits that make up the Formula Xtreme Nakedbike series.

"We’ve run the same bike over both seasons, and we did an engine rebuild at the beginning of the year," he said.

"These bikes produce a lot of horsepower and torque and rev to almost 11,000rpm.

Byers won 13 of 20 races in 2001 from hard-charging New South Welshman Michael Thomas and fellow Queenslander Leo Cash to make it back-to-back series wins.
