his parents divorced when he was 6, but he says he was too young to be affected by it.
he left school at age seventeen to join a band called scream.
he was in the band until their demise in 1990.
he left the band to join nirvana playing drums.
he sang back up vocals along with guitar on the bands two biggest albums, nevermind and in utero.
kurt cobain died in 1994, the band consequently split up.
in 1995 dave released his solo project foo fighters, then gathered together a band and went on tour promoting the album.
foo fighters released their second album in may 1997 and called it the colour and the shape.
this was the bands best album.
during the making on tcats the drummer left, then shortly after release, the guitarist left.
dave played the majority of the drums on the album.
he got in drinking pal taylor hawkins to join the band.
after the guitarist left, dave got in an old friend from the band scream to play guitar but he left in 1999 leaving the foos as a three piece once, more.
the band released there is nothing left to lose in november 1999. this became the band's best selling album and won them a grammy for best rock album, and the song learn to flty earned them best short-form video grammy!!!
dave grohl also won best rock guitarist at this years gibson awards, his girlfriend melissa auf der maur won best bassist.
they drafted in chris shiffett to play guitar on tour, but he soon became a member of the band.
this year the foos have been recording a fourth album, but it had to be held back when taylor was admitted into a hospital in london after "overindulging" in festivities at v2001.
the new album is exected for release in early 2002.
