9th, 2001 When in Rome PDK-RMG-PDK DeKalb-Peachtree airport in Atlanta to Rome,GA and back. My first solo cross-country flight! To say I was excited and bouncing off the walls would be an understatement. I'd only been in school a month and yet they were more than happy to give me the keys to the plane and send me on my merry way, all by myself. It's a beautiful world... |

6. Afternoon rush hour at PDK. I waited nearly 30 minutes just to get out of here. Camel nuts! |

11. Rome Airport. Everyone was so friendly at the airport here. It was like Mayberry. The guy who refueled Peanut sort of reminded me of Goober. I mean that in an endearing way. He talked my ear off and asked me a zillion questions about flight school. When he found out that PDK is full of female flight instructors, he seemed truly dumbfounded. More to the point, he wanted to know how many of them were blonde and how many might be available to instruct him. "Man, I think I need to come down thar and check that out, man..." |

12. I'm such a nerd. I couldn't resist checking out the old planes while they refueled Peanut. This 60 year old DC-3 at Rome used to be parked at Mercer airport near Calhoun and was seen in the Orange Hat movie |

13. The DC-3, perched like some weird kind of dinosaur. |

14. On the way back to PDK from Rome. This was the best part of the trip. The great thing about Fall in Georgia is how sunsets seem to last forever with long shadows and the sunlight has that weird orange tint. The air was really clear and still and there was that faint smell of wood smoke or burning leaves as I moseyed on home. |

15. This is the dam at Lake Allatoona. Ain't that fall foliage purdee? |
