A group of hippos surfaced during our river safari. These are not animals that you want to make angry. Apparently, more deaths are caused by these guys than any other wild animal in Africa.

Lounging lionesses. They are usually hesitant around humans, but we were in the jeep at the time and according to our guide, they don't associate the vehicle with humans.

This was a really close encounter. We had been tracking these white rhinos all morning, about 3 hours, then came over a ridge and there they were. They are incredibly near-sighted animals, and according to our guide they didn't see us, which explains why they started walking towards us. It was amazing. This is a mother and her almost fully grown cub. As we were leaving over the ridge, the male made an appearance, and either didn't notice us or didn't care because with a thud, he fell to the ground asleep. Absolutely awesome.
