The Write Share Project

What is it?

The Write Share Project is a way for us to communicate with each other.

Through the Write Share Project we can -

         - learn from each other as people with many diverse talents, skills and experiences

         - realize that everyone struggles with different issues where writing and English are concerned

         - feel like a "regular"classroom where people interact with each other

         - stay up to date on things through group emails

         - respond to each other through email.

So what is it exactly?

The Write Share Project is what is known as a
list serve or discussion group.

It works like this:

1.  I will send you an invitation.  It will appear in your email inbox.  It will be from Yahoo groups.

2.  Follow the directions to join.

3.  When you send an email to writeshareproject@yahoogroups.com, everyone in the class will receive it.  When they do the same, you will receive their email.

4.  If you want to, you can respond to people who have posted things on the project.  Just click on reply.  (If you reply, remember to follow the Golden Rule:  treat others the way you want to be treated.)

5.  It helps if you title your email with something other people in the class will recognize, such as Online Writing Class or something similar.

6.  If you want to, you can look up what has been posted on the WSP in the past.  That is a fun way to get to know people who are already in the class.

7.  The easiest way to do that is to have a Yahoo email account and to use your Yahoo account for membership in the WSP and for all your work in this class.  I sometimes recommend that.  It is free, easy and makes everything very smooth.  (If you decide to do that, just let me know and I will send your invitation to join to your new Yahoo email address.)

7.  The other way to do it is a little more complicated.  One of the students in this class was kind enough to write up all the steps involved.  You can
click here to read how to do that

What if you do all this and you have problems?  Another student in this class, Pedro Yang, has been kind enough to write up these questions to ask yourself if you have registered with WSP but are not receiving emails::

1.  Can you receive email from the email address you registered with for the WSP site?
If the answer is YES, proceed to the next step.
Otherwise, replace the email address in the WS site with a valid one.
2. In your membership settings on the WSP, is the "Email Deliver" permission set to "No Email?"
If the answer is NO, proceed to the next step.
Otherwise, adjust the "Email Deliver" setting.
3. Do you have a junk mail filter that blocks group email?
If so, unblock it.

Pedro has also offered to help students who are having trouble with the WSP.  If you are one of those people, email me and I will provide you with his email address

By the way, this service at yahoo groups is free.  You might want to set up a discussion group for friends and family or co-workers.  It's a great way to stay in touch and exchange information.  I am a member of a list serve group for teachers who teach online writing to ESL students.  It is very helpful to be able to share ideas and challenges with them.

More than anything, I hope you will use and enjoy the WSP as a chance to learn from your classmates.  We all have a lot to teach each other!
