Creating an Office 2000 CD with integrated
Service Release 1a and Service Pack 2
(Disc 1 and Disc 2)
Requirements
1. Office 2000
2.
Service Release 1a Administrative Updates - Data1.exe (142MB) and O2ksr1adl.exe (52MB)
3.
Service Pack 2 Administrative Update - SP2admin.exe (30MB)
4. Any
newer Administrative updates available - (There are a few)
5. Latest Windows Installer. Details here.
Office 2000 details - What is included in the product box?
Before we startExtract O2ksr1adl.exe and SP2admin.exe to E:\SP\. Next, extract data1.exe to E:\SP\. (You will be prompted to overwrite DATA1.MSP - continue). Extract the post-SP2 administrative updates to E:\SP in the order that they were released (oldest releases extracted first). It is possible that newer updates may overwrite some of the older files, hence the extraction of older files initially.
The following files will now be present in E:\SP\.
ART.MSP | SR1a | Access Runtime Master |
AUTORUN.INF | SR1a | |
DATA1.MSP (142MB) | data1.exe | Disc 1 |
DATA2.MSP | SR1a | Disc 2 |
EXCEL.MSP | SP2 | Disc 1 |
FPSE.MSP | SR1a | FrontPage Server Extensions |
INSTMSI.EXE | SR1a | |
INSTMSIW.EXE | SR1a | |
O9sr1.hlp | SR1a | |
OUT2KMST.MSP | SP2 | Disc 1 |
OWS.MSP | SR1a | Office Server Extensions |
PPTMST.MSP | SP2 | Disc 1 |
Readme.doc | SR1a | |
Readadm.doc | SP2 | |
SETUP.EXE | SR1a | |
SOURCE.INI | SR1a | |
SP2ADMIN.MSP | SP2 | Disc 1 |
(There will be more files from the post-SP2 administrative updates. These are from SR1a and SP2 only.)
Disc 1 Integration
In essence, we are creating an Administrative Installation Point over the Office 2000 CD.
As such, all files and folders present on the Office 2000 CD that are not
relevant to the Office 2000 core files are retained.
Copy Disc 1 to a directory on your hard drive. eg E:\Office\Disc1\
Remove the read only attributes from all files and folders.
Failure to do this will result in an error.
Apply the patches (sorted by date with the oldest applied first) using the following windows installer switches. Click here for an explanation of various switches and a link to MSI errors codes.
At the "Run" command type -
msiexec /p E:\SP\*.MSP /a E:\Office\Disc1\*.MSI shortfilenames=true /qb
where -
*.MSP is the name of the update file, eg UPDATE.MSP
*.MSI is the name of the relevant office msi, eg DATA1.MSI
Integrating DATA1.MSP
msiexec /p E:\SP\DATA1.MSP /a E:\Office\Disc1\data1.msi shortfilenames=true /qb
Integrating SP2ADMIN.MSP
msiexec /p E:\SP\SP2ADMIN.MSP /a E:\Office\Disc1\data1.msi shortfilenames=true /qb
Apply the remaining remaining relevant patches, oldest first.
(If a CD key error occurs, remove the (/qb) switch and repeat.)
Do not remove Internet Explorer from E:\Office
Internet Explorer 5 is a required component for Office 2000. Removal will prevent setup from installing. When Office 2000 is updated by data1.msp (142MB version), Internet Explorer is also updated to version 5.01
Worth a try -
If you have a copy of Internet Explorer 5.01SP2 or a later version that came on a Microsoft CD, you may want to replace the Office 2000 supplied version. I do not know if the downloaded versions of Internet Explorer 5.01SP2 or later will work, but feel free to try.
Disc 2 Integration
The only updates (from the list above) for Disc 2 are contained in Data2.msp
from O2ksr1adl.exe.
However, not all of the required updates are present, so they will have to be
copied from the updated version of Office 2000 Disc 1. This is a documented case
by Microsoft, so ignore any errors that may occur.
Copy Disc 2 to E:\Office\Disc2\ and remove the read only attributes.
The following folders MUST be replaced with the versions from the UPDATED Disc 1.
- IE5
- MSI
- SUPPORT
At the "Run" command -
msiexec /p E:\SP\data2.msp /a E:\Office\Disc2\data2.msi shortfilenames=true /qb
(If a CD key error occurs, remove the (/qb) switch and repeat.)
Thanks go out to Aneil Raghunannan for closely working with me on this one.

You now have administrative installation points for Office 2000 SR1a SP2 Disc 1 and Disc 2. Transfer to rewritable CDs and update when patches are released. The CD label is trivial, so use the original Office 2000 CD labels.
