Cable TV has announced that four new channels will be added to its tier service.
According to the company subscribers will now be able to enjoy WPIX – New York Superstation, WB Television Network, Fox Movie Channel, the National Geographic Channel and a Caribbean Broadcasting Union Union/CNN Headline News combo.
The addition means Tier subscribers will now have 43 channels.
The channels were selected after cable TV conducted a customer survey to determine what new channels its customers most want to see.
The CBU/CNN Combo will include CNN programming throughout the day with interruptions for insertion of CBU programming.
Cable TV also announced that for the first time in five years it would be implementing a rate increase.
Effective October 1st the tier service will increase to 80 dollars per month.
However Incremental charges for premium move services will not change and discounts offered to subscribers who take multiple premium services will be continued.
Rates for Basic and Basic Plus Services will not be affected.
In addition to the new channels, the company recently approved plans to upgrade its cable tv system on the island from 330 Mega hertz to 450 Meg hertz.
This would increase the current channel capacity to up to 60 channels and improve the quality of the pictures.
The company anticipates completing this upgrade by late 2002.
In making the announcement president of Cable TV Lee Burtman says customers always ask for more channels and the company is happy to provide the additional service.
Burtman says while no one likes a rate increase Cable TV remarkably held the rates at the same price for over five years and that the current increase is modest considering the many improvements made and the losses sustained.
He says Cable TV and staff are committed to continuing to bring the best available service to customers and challenge its self to improve the service.
