Since the announcement by the government that a temporary airstrip will be built at Gerald's questions have been raised about its safety.
But there is no reason to feel Gerald's is unsafe for the take off and landing of aircraft.
That's according to civil and infrastructure engineer at DFID Ian Young.
In an interviewed carried on peoples television Monday night Mr. Young said the consultants who undertook the preliminary work had safety as a number one priority.
Mister Young noted that the airstrip has to be in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation requirements for it to be certified.
According to him there is no doubt that any airstrip that will go at Gerald's will comply fully with all the requirements with the ICAO.
The DFID engineer went on to explain that the airport would have good availability and would not have to be shut down very often because of crosswinds.
Mister Young also said the strip would be aligned to cause minimum disruption to the community, the minimum loss of property and disruption to property owners.
