Birds of the Montane Forests (Fraser's Hill, Malaysia) 2001

Back in 2000, when I was still pretty new to the  regional birding scene, a friend of mine, Tun Pin (now still an avid international birder) showed me to the montane forests at Genting Highlands (Malaysia) where I got some inspiration to capture the diversity of the fabulous montane bird fauna, as well as the plants too. This painting is not accurate totally because i added in pictures of some Bornean pitcher plants out of sheer fancy. If you look carefully, you would find hidden snakes, butterflies, moths, squirrels, orchids and of course birds! Some of the obvious ones are
Silver-eared Mesia, Black-crested Bulbul, Black-browed Barbet, Large Hawk Cuckoo and Common/Radjah Brooke's Birdwings and Paphiopedilum Orchids......

Birds of the Lowland Forests (Singapore's Central Catchment)
2004

This is a recent attempt to capture the diversity of Singapore's rich forest bird fauna. The design is actually intented for a T-shirt for Natures Niche. In the process of compostion, I had to carefully choose the birds to strike a balance of rare and common birds as well as migrants and residents. The light comes from the front, which is why many of the leave are reflecting white. Also I tried to give each of them an individual sparkle in the eye to bring out the life in them.Species are :
Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Scarlet Minivet, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Fairy Bluebird, Orange-bellied Flowerpecker, Red-crowned Barbet, Purple-throated Sunbird, White-bellied Woodpecker, Thick-billed Pigeon and Long-tailed Parakeet. The white flowers are Singapore Kopsia.
Medium - Ballpen/colour pencils

The Garden of Eden is in Panti
(Flora and Fauna of the Rainforest)
1999

Back in those days in 1997, a friend of mine introduced me to this wonderful forest in Johore, called Panti which i spent hundreds of hours which i recall with fond memories of some of the most beautiful things that were ever created by nature. An unseen charisma of this location has drawn me back for years since then. As I would have already introduced earlier on, some parts of the idea for this painting was inspired by French Surrealist, Henri Rosseau's work on dreamy ethereal scenes of the exotic green realms.
Some of the wild denizens featured here are
Storm's Stork, Garnet Pitta, Purple-throated Sunbird, Crested Partridge, Diard's Trogon, Red-throated Barbet, Flat-headed Cat, Lesser Mousedeer, Mangrove Snake, Wagler's Pit-Viper, Torch-Ginger, Rafflesia, Pitcher Plants, Rattan, Birdnest Fern and the Slipper Orchid.

Medium - Ballpen, Gouache.
