The 114th Pennsylvania Vol. Infantry

Who We Are:
The 114th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was offically confirmed by the American Civil War Association, our parent organization, early in 2001. Our unit is composed of reenactors committed to honoring and portraying the men and women who fought with the 114th during the American Civil War.

What We Do:
The 114th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry differs from most other units in the ACWA in our commitment to training and drilling as the men and women in the Civil War would have. We engage in more physically strenuous activities, and thus, we demand a certain level of physical fitness from our members. We are not, however, a hardcore group which does not have any fun. We are a closely knit unit which enjoys reenacting immensly and we go to great lengths to have fun or amuse ourselves. This year, we plan to be very active between battles doing living history and speaking to the public as the opportunity arises.

Why We Do It:
The original 114th Pennsylvania, which fought in the Civil War, was an extremely well drilled unit, in fact, they performed the bayonet drill they learned on several occasions for large social functions. One soldier remarked that on the whole they were "lean and wiry" when the war began. This was a step beyond the common soldier who usually entered the war from a life in the city. We try to stay with this idea, and look for recruits that are physically fit so that they are able to engage in the drill we participate in. We have become adept at bayonet drill, and are working continually on marching drill as well as improving our impression. We focus mainly on skirmish drill, as we are a small unit at the time.
