As you may have expected from my last post, today was consumed by Akira, and amptly rewarded by the 15 or so pages of total Godzilla-style destruction of Neo-Tokyo at the end of book three. My only regret is that, in the midst of all this discussion of Neo-Tokyo and its denizens, I don't have any Deltron to comfort me. Life is cold and cruel, forever starving us of manga-themed hip-hop when we need it most.

Today I went to the grocery store. Woot! Rock on! How dare I be so cutting-edge and trend-setting in this world of crisis and turmoil? HOW CAN I BE SO BEAUTIFUL WHEN PEOPLE ARE DYING?
The Christmas celebration is in full swing over here, and in spite of myself I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to listen to Christmas music until the time that God Himself appointed, the day after Thanksgiving. I intend to celebrate Thanksgiving with the other Americans by making as much of the traditional Thanksgiving meal as we can, which will likely be very little. The Japanese freely eat snake, whale and horse, but think that turkey is just unbelievably disgusting, so there will be no procuring one for our feast. Strangely enough my professors never included "cream of tartar" in their vocabulary sheets, but if I can figure out how to say it in Japanese despite their best efforts to stop me, I'll make biscuits. This is about as likely as me spontaneously turning into a chest of drawers and being rated on Antiques Roadshow as The Priceless Jewel of the West, but I still have hope.
This is some not particularly Engrish-y Engrish, but it's a representative example of the ubiquitous "English" that confronts me every day. The Japanese have apparently decided that it is too much work to learn how to speak English properly, so they have opted to bludgeon it into submission. This has worked fairly well for them.
