Third Generation

Family of Francis Buckalew (2) & Martha_?

6. Samuel Buckalew , Sr. Born in 1696 in Nr South Amboy, Middlesex Co., NJ. Samuel died in South Amboy, Middlesex Co., NJ, in 1792; he was 96.

Married a Scottish woman named Mary Campbell by whom there were three daughters and two sons.

His will, which came into the possession of his great-grandson, John M. Buckalew, dated April 12, 1781, devised to his "trusty and well beloved son John" a certain tract at the place mentioned (all his lands) and states that it was bequeathed to Samuel by his brother [Other records indicate that Samuel received the land from his father, not brother.] Francis. The elder of his two sons, Andrew, received by the will "the just and lawful sum of ten shillings," and John was appointed sole executor. No reason was given for the strange disposition of the property, and it is not known whether Andrew had been previously provided for or not.

Samuel married Mary Campbell. Born in Monmouth Co., NJ.

Will dated 12 Apr 1781; proved (probated?) in NJ 6 Jan 1802

They had the following children:
15 i. Andrew (1731-1805)
16 ii. John M. (1743-1833)
17 iii. Samuel
18 iv. Joseph (1747-1834)
