Perhaps I took the ocean for granted all
those years growing up in Florida. It was always there,
anytime you wanted to ski, fish, swim, or just wade
around in it. More like the air, it was just another
medium to plow through without giving it a second
thought. That is, not until you stick your head under the
waves and open your eyes to an entirely different world.
Like going for a walk in space, the environment wraps
around you and doesn't behave like the one you are used
to. Laying suspended in time and place, watching the
inhabitants carry on with their lives oblivious to the
prying eyes that invade their world. Silence. The
incredible sound of nothing, disturbed only briefly by
the intermittent gurgling of your breath rising to join
the sky. The tingling of expectation that every diver
feels, that of anticipation, slightly dipped in the feear
of the unknown.
I'd like to share a few of the best
places I've been, and the experiences related to not only
the dives, but also the people and cultures that make a
dive an experience that stays with you always. I'd love
to hear about yours !!
