The Cheynes were formed in London by Pete Bardens (who also served as the group's manager) during 1963. Although they had a hard blues-influenced sound and built up a reputation as an excellent live act, they are usually remembered today as the band that launched the career of drummer Mick Fleetwood. In 1964 they were recruited to play a number of Beatles songs by producer/director Kenneth Hume in the short ballet film "Mods And Rockers". Having released three singles, none of which charted, the group went their separate ways in 1965. Peter Bardens later played with Them, Peter B's Looners, Shotgun Express and Camel. Sawyer was with the Fleur de Lys and a later version of The Spencer Davis Group. Following Mark Leeman's death, Peacock took over vocal duties with the Mark Leeman Five and Mick Fleetwood went on to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers before becoming a founder member of Fleetwood Mac.
