JANELLE GREGORY
WIDE OPEN PLAINS
(poetryrepairshop 99.10:112)
We invite distillation, homeward
bound housing emancipation.

Struggling for the mastery
with vague untrue obscenities

we mourn the virgin mind
in haste we've cast aside.

Enlivened by condescending giants
we place ourselves on circular plains

running while holding our place.
Peeling off layer by layer,

felicity for ambiguous gain.
Mute the screams of the

watching rain, wallowing
on tightrope dreams, remaining

ever the songless dancers tiptoeing
to fame below catacombs the

world has long disdained.
