BENAJAH WARD
early 1800's NC --2 Aug 1848

I am trying to find info on BENAJAH WARD, birthdate and place unknown. He mar 5 June 5, 1836 to PHEREBE (Feribee ???). who died 7 Nov 1841. Benajah then mar 20 Feb 1842 SUSAN ("Milly") THORNTON (b 13 Sep 1818, probably in Newton Grove, NC - 23 Oct 1906 in Fayetteville, NC). She is buried in Cross Creek Cemetery. Benajah owned a farm and was also a shoemaker. He died on August 2, 1848 and may have been buried, with Feribee, in a family cemetery on their farm. His son, Thomas was Methodist but we don't know anything about Benajah's religious affiliation. Children of Feribee and Benajah were: NANCY G. (17 May 1837), MARY ("Polly") (23 July 1839) and SARAH E. (24 Aug 1841). Ch of Milly Thornton and Benajah: PHEREBY (9 May 1843), SUSANNA BRYAN (14 Feb 1845) and THOMAS (9 Mar 1847, mar 13 Jan 1876, SARAH AUGUSTA CREECH (Creach) of Newton Grove, NC (d 12 Feb 1925 in Fayetteville, NC). Thomas inherited the farm near Newton Grove but apparently sold it. He moved to Fayetteville where he started a foundry, Ward's Plow Works, which operated from about 1870 or so until the 1940's. We're totally stuck on Benajah. He was sometimes called Benjamin by mistake and I'm afraid may be lost in the rush as a result. Any info would be most appreciated. We'd really like to know who Feribee was, too and if that was how she spelled her name or if it was actually like Phereby. [Editor's note: don't get bogged down in spelling. Phereby can be spelled many different ways (Phereba, Pheerbe, Pherebe, Pheriba, Pheriby, Fairbe, Fairbee, Fairba, Fairby and on and on; ditto for our family name--all are "correct").

FRANK EDWARD WARD

My name is KIM ROGER WARD (15 Dec 1950, Ft. Worth, TX.). My father was HERMAN FRANKLIN WARD (Feb 1927 in Mejia, TX, son of FRANK EDWARD WARD (early 1900's, Corsicana, Tx.). This is just about all I know about my roots. Herman F. was in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. Frank E. was a career railroad man for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Since this is the very beginning of my family research, I am interested in all info I can find on my family.

ISAAC WARD
NC to Horry Co., SC

I am looking for ISAAC WARD, who was b in NC, possibly Columbus Co. but one source lists SC. Info passed down in the family says he might be the son of a JAMES WARD, however a good possibility might be ROBERT WARD. A NATHANIEL WARD and JOSHUA WARD pops up also. Isaac is listed on the 1880 census of the Dogbluff section of Horry Co., SC, as age 70, meaning he was born ca 1810. He was mar (1) to EMILY (possibly JORDAN), with a dau FRANCES EMALINE WARD (ca 1841) and (2) CHARLOTTE COOK. They had 4 ch b between 1875 and 1883. The 1900 census listed his wife CHARLOTTE age 53 born SC, their ch: WILLIAM J. (22), ROSA E. (25), CHARLOTTE (19), HARMON WILLIAM (17), (my grandfather) and LENA VIOLA WARD (4), all born SC (Conway and Dillon). Isaac died in Horry Co. between 1891-1901. I had an uncle named ROBERT ISAAC WARD named in part at least for his grandfather. Any help or thoughts on this family would be appreciated. Also, interested in "DAPE" WARD in Conway about 1943 era. He possibly had a son JESSE with a Myrtle Beach area Police department. Thanks,
Harry Ward

RICHARD WARD
ca 1683 Va.

Searching for info on RICHARD WARD (ca 1683 at Henrico Co., VA), son of Captain SETH WARD (1661-1707) & his wife, ANN HATCHER (1664-1634). By his first wife, Richard had a son with his 1st wife, BENJAMIN (ca 1720 probably in Lunenburg Co., Va. -- ca 1767 in Pittsylvania Co., Va.). Richard had a dau, TAHPENES WARD (c1730-1794) who mar PHILIP WEBBER & lived out their lives in Cumberland Co., Va. probably on the land her father Richard gave to her. In 1759 Richard made a will & named his son Benjamin, daughter Tahpenes, wife Mary who was pregnant. Richard died around Feb 1762 at Lunenburg Co. No name has been found for the unborn child. Benjamin Ward may have married twice, first may have been "MISSY" who died ca1745 & by Missy may have had son, DANIEL WARD (ca 1745-1826 of Franklin Co., Va.). Benjamin may have had other children by his 2nd wife: BENJAMIN WARD (d 1820 in Ashe Co., NC, mar SELAH DUKE); Dr. William WARD (c1756-1833) of Rutherford Co., TN; JAMES WARD (ca 1758 & had ch: WILLIAM, THOMPSON, ELIZABETH and MARY); JOSHUA WARD (c1760-1849, mar RHODA STIFF & had ch: MARY, WILLIAM & FANNY); MARY OBEDIANCE WARD (who mar ??? ABIGAIL WARD
1824 NC -- to AL. and Westville, FL.

Searching for info on my ggg grandmother, ABIGAIL WARD (b 1824 in NC) and her husband, WILLIAM COOEY (b 1805). They had 3 ch: SARAH ELIZABETH (1842 in FL.); AMANDA (1843 in AL.); and WILLIAM JEFFERSON COOEY (b Fl.). William went to "somewhere" in Alabama to work with his wife's Ward family, "loading or unloading wood" [EDITOR's note: this was more likely in the logging industry which became very active in South Alabama, Panhandle Florida and adjoining Southwest Georgia in the late 1800's and early 1900's]. He left Abigail in Westville, Holmes Co., FL. with the children. He caught yellow fever and Abigail went to Alabama to take care of him. She too, caught the fever and both died. The children were raised by some of Abigail's Ward family in Westville. The oldest child Sarah Elizabeth grew up and married her cousin IRA JACKSON ("Jack") WARD. The youngest child, William, is my gg grandfather. We do not know what became of Amanda. They may have been related to the JONES family in Westville but I am not sure. Any reply or information would be most appreciated.

WILLIAM H. WARD
1816-1864 Oh. ?

Searching for info on parents of my gg great grandfather, WILLIAM H. WARD (16 Sep 1816 - Sep 1864). Various sources say he was born in Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Ohio but none are conclusive. He reportedly had a brother named PHILIP WARD. William worked as a miller, a carpenter and a ship's carpenter. He mar MARGARET CRAWFORD (d 1866 in IL.) in Columbiana Co., Oh., 30 Mar 1837. They had 11 ch: MARTHA, JOHN, B. F. (Frank?), BEL; MINA, ELIZABETH, DANIEL CRAWFORD, ROSA, MARGARET, PHILIP, ARSULA and WILLIAM WARD. The children were born between 1838 and 1857; Martha and William died as children. The family lived in Ohio at John's birth in 1838 and was in Gallia Co., Oh. at Daniel Crawford Ward's birth in 1846. I have not found definite info on William or his parents prior to his marriage in 1837. Any leads would be appreciated. I would be happy to provide information on the descendants of John Ward, William's son.

R. WARD
1749 - 1831 South Carolina

A snapshot was recently found in some papers of my grandmother Ward. It shows a red limestone-type tombstone. Its inscription reads "R. WARD Born 1749 Dec'd 1831" The cemetery appears to have barren, reddish soil with a few scrubby weeds. My grandmother has labeled the picture: "taken in (illegible), South Carolina, 1983." I have no idea if my grandmother took the photo with a definite family connection in mind, or if she was just intrigued by an old tombstone bearing our family name. I suppose it is possible that this R. Ward is a parent or grandparent of my ggg grandfather, WILLIAM H. WARD (1816-1864) but I am at a loss as to how to establish a connection. I have no other info that would place my branch of the Ward family in the South but neither could I disprove a link in that time period. Does this fit into anyone else's information?

JAMES MADISON WARD
mar 1840 MARY ANN GRANT

I have Ward's in my family. They are from Massachusetts and maybe Florida or New Hampshire. My Grandmother was DOROTHY MAE WARD, dau of WILLIAM LEWIS WARD and CARRIE LOUISE WARD (Ward married Ward).
