English Translation: The results of the validation on the three batches of UH-AC 62 XX Liquid 7.5 mg / 5 ml Recipe 2 demonstrate that the routine production and testing of the product is assured. After the risk analysis, the production of the active substance / silicon dioxide mixture, of the hydroxyl ethyl cellulose mucous solution, of the final mixture, and of the filling are to be evaluated especially critically. The analysis results regarding homogeneity, viscosity, particle size, and resuspendability show that the chosen production parameters led to the desired results. |

English Translation: We tested how strong the phosphorus or phosphate compounds from the stomach and intestinal tract are, based on the chosen dosage; what influence the elimination of phosphate in the stomach and intestinal tract has on the calcium-phosphate metabolism; to what extent iron ions can achieve absorption (hemosiderosis); and what influence increased adsorbed iron has on the iron metabolism in the body. By determining the iron levels in excrement, urine, and various tissues, the pharmacokinetic fate of the phosphate adsorber was recorded. The local mucous membrane tolerance (stomach/intestinal irritation) of the phosphate adsorber was tested histopathologically. By feeding standard rat feed at the close of the 28-day treatment phase, the reversibility of the findings was tested. |

English Translation: ELDORADO, Misiones, July 5, 1957. |
Original article in English: TIME International MEXICAN PRODIGY The country's richest
man ventures into online services His executive offices in Mexico City are spartan. He dresses unpretentiously in baggy suits, sometimes drives his own car, lives in the same house where he raised his six children and has been seen wearing a cheap plastic watch. But don't be fooled by Carlos Slim Helú's austere life-style; appearances notwithstanding, Slim is the richest man in Mexico, and he is a new player in the rapidly evolving digital dimension. Two weeks ago, Slim, 56, and his Grupo Carso conglomerate joined with International Wireless of Cambridge, Massachusetts, to buy Prodigy, the floundering online computer service owned by IBM and Sears. Grupo Carso owns 20% of International Wireless, which paid an estimated $250 million for Prodigy. "This is an outrageously great opportunity," exults IW chairman Gregory Carr. "We're going to take Prodigy to the world." If Slim's record as a shrewd bargain hunter is any guide, Prodigy, which ranks fourth among American online services, may indeed become a hot property after years of losing money. Over the past decade, this Mexican-born son of Lebanese immigrants has earned a reputation as a turnaround magician -- snapping up undervalued, badly managed companies, then putting in new executive teams to bring them back to profit. Slim's vast holdings, valued at around $3.4 billion, encompass everything from tobacco farms to copper mines to printing plants. Slim owns Mexico's beloved Sanborn Hermanos chain of coffee shops and drugstores, the Inbursa financial group, plus a big interest in the Mexican phone company, Telmex, of which he is chairman. When Mexico's economy was flying high in the early '90s, Grupo Carso was capitalized at more than $10 billion. Since the disastrous December 1994 devaluation of the peso, that value has dropped sharply. But because of Grupo Carso's relatively small debt and heavy reliance on exports, amounting to as much as 40% of its business, the company has suffered little. Profits for 1995 were $295 million. "Carso is no upstart," says Santiago Pique, an analyst at Bear and Stearns in New York City. "The company is a Mexican success story." Given Prodigy's potential, Slim and his partners bought the service for peanuts. Jamie Kiggen, an Internet analyst for Bear and Stearns, believes that $150 million of the $250 million price was in debt assumption, which means International Wireless put up only $100 million in cash for a company in which IBM and Sears had invested $1 billion. Can the new management make Prodigy prosper? No one who knows Carlos Slim's ability to take a company from distress to success would bet against it. |
English Translation: Among the seized "goods" was a young "Indian" named Matutaray from the Island of Oneehow (sic) in the Sandwich Islands. He had served as Captain James Colnett's personal servant on board the ship. Apparently, he had been on a couple of British ships since he was picked up in 1778, and he had traveled as far as Canton in China with the British. Now he was to travel to Nutka with his new jefe, José Esteban Martínez, who made a report of the whole affair to the viceroy, promising to bring the young man to Mexico City, where a dictionary of his language could be put together. Of course he mentioned that the young man showed tendencies towards embracing Catholicism. Matutaray was described as a handsome individual, standing very tall for his race (almost 6'5", whereas most Polynesians were only about 5'7") and possessing olive-toned skin, European-type facial features, and black wavy hair. (This according to the description of his admirers, obviously.) He must have also been smart enough to always tell the Spaniards what they wanted to hear. |
English Translation: The next day we found out: the second boat was again not ready!! There was no purpose in waiting, so we outfitted our boat in the harbor in order to set sail today without the others. Only because of our plans to sail together, I didn't have any sea charts of England, just photocopies for any emergency situation that might arise. The harbormaster said that if I ordered them by telephone, they would be there by noon. OK. We'll wait. Do I need to explain further? It so happened that on this particular day, there was a new man driving the delivery van, and he couldn't find the harbor. This day was also lost to us, because we have to use the tide to reach the open sea. Now we were firmly decided that we would take off tomorrow!! And tomorrow it was. Exactly at the planned time, we said good-bye to all that were in the harbor and set sail. |
