This is some of what I know thus far. On my mother's side of the family, I am primarily Hispanic, with a fair amount of German. I was born in Puerto Rico, like my mother and just about every relative on her side of the family. Unfortunately, little is known about my mother's side before my great-grandparents, so I'm afraid I will never get very far tracing that path. My father, on the other hand, was born in Virginia, and his ancestry is well-documented in some places as far back as the early 17th century and before. I know of British, Irish, and Cherokee ancestry, from what my Aunt Barbara has told me, and I'm hoping to be able to trace some Scottish as well, since many people tell me that I look like a Highlander. Among my famous ancestors are John Alden, the last surviving signer of the Mayflower Compact (and the famous John in the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, "The Courtship of Miles Standish"); the grandparents of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy during the Civil War; and members of the Cherokee tribe who escaped the Trail of Tears in the 1820's and 1830's and established the "eastern band" of the tribe, which to this day lives in the Carolinas. I hope to eventually trace all of the intermitent generations, and the generations which preceded these great men and women...
For now, I will offer up these links:
