Carded Figures
During 1982 and 1983 Kenner released a total of 9 figures on card. The packaging showed much of the style of their super successful Star Wars action figure line with the figure offset to the side on a color background and a large picture directly from the movie to catch the consumer's eye. Kenner initially released only 4 carded figures--Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood, Toht and the Cairo Swordsman. These first four figures appeared with a send-away offer for another action figure--Belloq in Ceremonial Robe--printed as a blurb on the front and also in detail on the back. Later, Kenner expanded the line to add 5 more carded figures--Belloq, Sallah, Indiana Jones in German Outfit, the German Mechanic and Belloq in Ceremonial Robe. Around this time, the special mail-in offer for Belloq was ending so the printed offer does not appear on their cards. At least two of the four original figures--Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood--were also rereleased without the offer. Presumably the other two--Toht and Cairo Swordsman--were also released without the offer but I have not confirmed this at the moment. Below you can observe examples of all the first release carded figures as well as the cardbacks. Also included are some pictures of typical and strange variations in some of the cardbacks I have found.
I am presently in search of the 3 of the 4 rereleased figures carded without the Belloq offer (Marion, Toht and Cairo Swordsman). If you have or know someone who might have these for sale please email me. If you have them in your collection, don't want to sell them and would like to help me complete this listing, please send me a scan of the figure. Thanks!
