In 1972, I was out of the Air Force, and looking around for a job which would pay enough to support my family. The choices were limited. In Detroit, the main employer was Ford Motor Company. Most of my buddies went to work there. I tried working at Ford, but got layed off after less than three months. If I wanted security, I figured the best place for me would be working for the Federal Government. I could be a Postal Worker, or I could try for a job at the VA Hospital in Allen Park, Michigan. |
Eventually, the VA Hospital in Allen Park moved to the new, state-of-the-art building in downtown Detroit. The Detroit VA Hospital covers four city blocks, and is computerized, automated, and sanitized to within an inch of its life. If you go there you will receive the best medical treatment available in any VA hospital in the country. Just be careful and don't get lost in the building or it will take a month to find you. The place is absolutely HUGE. |
