Mission 1: ShipOres, Ltd., vs. The Regency of Corellis
======================================================

The CHESAPEAKE was called upon to mediate a territorial dispute
between the Regency of Corellis, in the Delta Corellis trio of
star systems, and ShipOres, Ltd., a mining megacorporation. The
Corellians were applicants for Federation membership and willing
to give the process a try.

There were two planetoids in dispute, in the most remote of the
three systems. They were barren, but suitable for "bubble-type"
habitation. They were suspected of having fairly profitable
mineral deposits. The ship had been sent to investigate the
claims.

The claims of each side seemed fairly cut-and-dry. The
Corellians claimed historical right, while ShipOres point out
that the third star system was settled by both groups at more or
less the same time. The Corellians had national pride backing up
their claims, while the miners had principles concerning the
rights to unused territory behind theirs. Both seemed to want
the material gains that the land might provide.

The CHESAPEAKE was to look over the claims, help facilitate the
negotiations, and investigate vague claims of wrongdoing by the
Corellians against the Federation miners on the smaller of the
two planetoids, centering around suspicions of clandestine
efforts to settle the thing with people and present occupation
as a fait accompli.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Both sides drove hard bargains, with each side claiming that
there were illicit activities on the other. During the heated
discussions, the CHESAPEAKE received a distress call from one of
the planetoids, discovering a ship of unknown alien origin.
While Engineering continued to investigate the ship itself, the
Away Team discovered man-made caverns which were recently
abandoned -- and had residues indicating that mass manufacturing,
most likely weapons of Federation technology.

As accusations flew right and left, Corellis's capital was taken
by a coup d'etat, forcing the negotiations to an effective
standstill. As the Regency struggled to regain power,
circumstantial evidence of ShipOres's involvement in the
supplying of weapons to those who accomplished the coup began to
accumulate.

The Regency did regain control of the government, at the cost of
the life of the Prince Regent, forcing Duchess Livia, her sister,
to succeed to the Regency. While their government recovered from
the damage done, they have decided to postpone further
negotiations regarding the planetoids, and ShipOres agreed.
