History:
When Penance first appeared at the Massachusetts Academy, she woke up startled and fought her way out but, before accomplishing this, Chamber stopped her with his tender words which made her stay . While there she remained silent with everyone, but made a surrogate relationship with several members of the team like her surrogate father, Banshee and her surrogate sister, Jubilee . Her claws were said to be even sharper than the legendary Wolverine's claws . It was soon revealed that she was earlier an hostage for Emplate, deaf and is the sister of M and Emplate !
This is the shocking secret of Penance, folks, as revealed in Generation-X #40 ! A while ago, Emplate asked his sister, Monet to join him in taking over this other dimension . Monet just laughed at him which, got him madder so finally, he releashed some of his newfound power on her to change her to a red diamond hard mute girl . "A form as sharp as her tougue" Emplate calls . Next, comes in Nicole and Claudette, M's little sibs . They sent Emplate packing but Penance comes after Emplate because he is the only one who change her back .
This solves how Penance got stuck with Emplate and why she can survive when Emplate uses his powers on her and others can't . This is because a mutant can't use their powers upon their sibs and the sibs on them but how about issue #31 where Penance's claws had some effect on Emplate ? Wonder how Marvel will get themselves out of THIS one ?
Nevermind back to the story ... now, Nicole and Claudette combined themselves to become Monet so their dad won't go crazy . Later, when they're in Generation-X, the twins split into seperate beings after a battle . A bit afterward, they learn the truth about Penance and feel sorry that they took over Monet's life while unknowingly, the real Monet watched literally, her life before her . So they traded their life for Penance's body so Monet could have her life again . In case, you don't understand, the real Monet and Nicole + Claudette swapped bodies so Monet is normal and Nicole and Claudette are Penance .
