I was born in Korea and was adopted by an American serviceman was I was very young. I was an Army brat for a while until my dad retired from the Army. I grew up and went to school in Huntsville, Alabama, graduating with the Lee High School Class of 1979 after attending East Clinton and Colonial Hills Elementary Schools and Chapman Middle School. Shortly after I graduated from Lee, I enlisted in the United States Army. I took my basic training and AIT at Fort Gordon, Georgia. My very first duty assignment was at Heidelberg, Germany from November of 1979 to December of 1981, serving with the 178th Signal Company, 43rd Signal Battallion. I was then assigned at The Pentagon from January of 1982 until I was discharged in July of 1984. During that time, I lived on Fort Myer, Virginia where I met my future wife. After we were married in September of 1983, we lived in the city of Alexandria, Virginia. In January of 1985, my wife who was in the United States Navy was reassigned to ship duty in San Diego, California. So, in late December of 1984, we moved everything we had, and with the help of a friend and my brother-in-law, drove cross country to California. We lived in the city of Chula Vista, a coastal city located in southern San Diego County, which is about 5 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. I was a student at Southwestern College for several semesters until in August of 1987, my son David was born. Shortly after my son was born, I started to work for the Navy myself, but this time as a civilian at Naval Air Station North Island, which is located in the city of Coronado. I then got tired of the California life and moved back to Virginia in April of 1989. I worked for the Defense Mapping Agency, which is now known as the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, for a short time until I was hired by the United States Army Materiel Command in November of 1989, and I've been working for them ever since. I live in the city of Fairfax, Virginia, which is the county seat of Fairfax County, Virginia.
