Miscellaneous Comments: Excellent. I've spent fours years hoping that Kate Mulgrew would be cast as a Star Trek captain. If she had been anything but superb, I would have been crushed. And she was superb. She projects perfect leadership qualities. Of the rest of the characters, I was surprised by how much I liked Tom Paris. He was great. Very heroic. This was all the stuff I expected Chakotay to be.
The pilot quickly uses an old favourite among Star Trek plots: the society with overprotective leadership. These are sound values. I liked the ending. Janeway is responsible for her own destiny: she chose to destroy the way home. The climax is very exciting. It's a great start. I can't wait for the next episode.
