Who Saves The Day? Kim persists and persists with Tuvok. But it is Kes who finally convinces the vulcan.

Three Things I Really Liked About This Episode:
  • -Chakotays lovely speech to Janeway.
  • -The bath tub gesture. I find this an irrestibly romantic thing to do.
  • -In one scene, Harry is acting up on the bridge and Paris (!) is the one who tells him to calm down and stops him getting in trouble. Nice.
Three Things I Really Didn't Like About This Episode:
  • -Why is Tuvok so often the bad-guy? Why must who he is be the source of so much conflict? Why must he so often come around to their way of thinking?
  • -No good-bye speech from Chakotay!! Huh?

Miscellaneous Comments: This week: A kinder, gentler Janeway.

What could be better than this? A group of characters you really care about, divided over an issue which has no clear answer. This is Star Trek Voyager as I enjoy it most.

For years, now, I've been a very big fan of Kate Mulgrew. I really adore this actress. Seeing her cast as a Starfleet Captain is a dream come true for me. And seeing episodes like this, where she brings so much to the role of Janeway are bliss.

Janeway is irrestible in this story. Her guard goes down in many ways and she becomes much more natural in herself. I liked watching that.

The speech by Chakotay is lovely also. It could be romantic, it could also be the most profound statement of friendship that I have yet heard. Whatever it actually was, whatever the label be, it made it perfectly clear that this man has very deep feelings for this woman. Who wouldn't?

Interesting to see the classic male-female roles come to the forefront. He as protector/provider?

    GRADE: A+
