arena

Dec 23rd, 1992: ANOTHER TREAT.
This time, due to the action-packed nature of the story.
The story also has a point to it, but these days it comes across as a very obvious point. That Kirk would refuse to kill the Gorn and, instead, rebel abainst his captor was a 100% certainty. That this would then be used to illustrate the good side of mankind, also came as no surprise. However, it is odd that Kirk, of all people, would leave his enemy alive.
Best Scene: The Gorn is crushed and appears to be dead, but he struggles up and overpowers Kirk. That sequence really impressed me.
What I find most notable about this episode is Kirk using all these harmless things to make a weapon. All mankind really lives in an "arena" too. All around us are things that could be used a weapons. Almost anything can be used to hurt or kill. Almost anything.
The episodes flaw in the ending, which is (a) simplistic and (b) preachy.
It is a Kirk episode. He is dynamic and heroic.
Not knowing anything about this episode, I assumed for the first 20 minutes that the unseen aliens were... Klingons (who, I think, are introduced somewhere during the first season).
