Miscellaneous Comments:13:52, Wednesday, May 6th, I saw another great Buffy last night, the Reptile Boy episode. Charisma had quite a lot to do, and she was very funny. Cordelia and Buffy were held hostage by cultists (until Buffy got free, kicked the stuffing out of them, and chopped their pet Giant Snake in half!). This was the episode where Cordelia had figured out that the best way to a boy's heart was to listen really intently and laugh a lot. So she did.
Type of Series: Action/Adventure. Teen Angst. Love Story(stories).
Similar Shows: Kolchak and She-Wolf spring to mind. And the idea of a heroine spinning through the air like that, must owe something to Xena, mustn't it?
Impressive Characters: Buffy, teen super-hero, just as tortured as Peter Parker, but somewhat deadlier...
Impressive Actors: The entire cast, really.
Impressive Episodes: So far, and I've seen 18 or so, they haven't stumbled.
Impressive Writers: Joss Whedon and his staff have created a stylish show and kept up the pace.
Less-Than-Impressive Characters: Less-Than-Impressive Actors: Less-Than-Impressive Episodes: Less-Than-Impressive Writers: Continuity: Strong. While each episode I've seen has been self-contained, there's always threads from earlier episdoes being expanded upon. In fact, the excellent handling of continuity is part of this shows considerable charm.
Reviews: Here's a nice site
which opens by telling us that "Brian Zino and Will Zagoren, a pair of
twenty-something neighbors and long-time friends
who are completely addicted to Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, maintain this program guide as a way for our
fellow fans to find information about their favorite
episodes and to read thoughtful opinions on each of the
episodes." I read a few of the reviews and I enjoyed them. Even if Brian did describe the episode I saw the other night as "Buffy on autopilot" and Will does seem to [gulp] dislike Cordelia!!!
Other Info:The Charisma Carpenter Zone
I picked this because I'm smitten with Charisma Carpenter. Simple enough. Her character is a hoot, and Charisma herself is beautiful. The site has loads of images, and two of them are currently taking up computer space as my wallpaper-of-the-moment. As a writer, I frequently pause, motionless, staring blankly ahead, as I seek inspritation. So, I ask you, why shouldn't I have Charisma to look at while I do so?
