The end is nigh!
Miscellaneous Comments: 13:52, Wednesday May 6th, Millenium last night, introduced Kirsten Cloke to the cast. I couldn't stand Millenium during it's first season. But the revamp has won me over. Episodes like this "Monster", make for superb television.
Type of Series: Grim murder mystery, with supernatural slant.
Similar Shows: I don't there's ever been anything quite like Millenium before. Last year, with it's tedious serial-killer-of-the-week format, it was easy to compare it with Profiler, (which was vastly superior) but the latest batch of stories have a different slant, and a distinctive feel to them (the Holloween episode, in particular, was told in a way only this show could have done). So, if you haven't tried it yet, wherever you are in the world, and Season Two is airing near you, then give it a go.
Impressive Characters:
Impressive Actors: Lance Henriksen is an excellent TV lead.
Impressive Episodes: What I've seen of Season Two has impressed me. In Ireland, Sky are mid-ways, Wednesdays at 10, and most of what I've seen has been, honestly, exceptional. Such an improvement over Season One. I saw about a third of that, from all over the place, and most of them were fairly dreadful. Pointless meandering tales, with an ineffectual and uninteresting central character. The Morgan/Wong revamp that started Season Two took the show by the lapels and made me a fan.
Impressive Writers: Morgan and Wong.
Less-Than-Impressive Characters:
Less-Than-Impressive Actors:
Less-Than-Impressive Episodes: Of the ones I saw from the first season, the child-abuse one, "The Well Worn Lock", was easily the worst. Cliche-ridden and devoid of feeling, it was a boring and uninvolving hour of TV. Contrast with what I saw this week on Irish TV, Season Two's child-abust tale, "Monster", was rivetting and exciting. It also provided Lance Henriksen with a great acting moment.
Less-Than-Impressive Writers:
Continuity: Subtle, but there. By and large, it's a self-contained show.
Episode Guide:
Reviews: Millenium Mecca seems like a worthwhile Millenium site. Bob Peryea, "Senior Profile Columnist", writes the reviews, and so far seven episodes from Season Two have been covered. But based on the two I just read, they are covered in style, in depth. Worth a visit if you want to think a bit more about some of the episodes.
Other Info:
Three Things I Really Like About This Series:
The star. An excellent actor. He was one reason I tried Season One so many times during that year, hoping he would get material to do him justice. It has finally happened.
The daughter. She's a cutie pie, isn't she. I liked the scene between father-and-daugther in "Monster". She was behaving like kids do in real life, and he was behaving like hassled parents sometimes do. Mind you, she's too adorable to stay angry at.

Three Things I Really Don't Like About This Series:
Season One as a whole.
They never found a use for Megan Gallagher, a wonderful actress from The Slap Maxwell Story, China Beach and Hill Street Blues who is here reduced to two/three scenes per week (Season One) and no scenes at all (Season Two). That's a great shame.
