The Creature from the Black Lagoon

Sculptor: unkown Company: Horizon Scale: 1/6 Material: vinyl Date Completed: 1995 Comments: Boy, did this guy scare me as a kid! The prospect of painting him was frightening too. The sculpture job is the absolute best I have seen of the Creature and unfortunately uncredited in the materials. I just didn't want to screw this one up. I studied the build-ups of this kit in several magazines and just didn't care for their stark unnatural appearance. I wanted something that looked like it could really slip out the murky waters of some fetid swamp. So it was air brush time. I started with a coat of deep organic green that I mixed up myself. I followed this by air brushing a slightly darker mix of the same color at the deep end of each scale and a slightly lighter mix at the raised end. Using the same light mix of the green, I then dry brushed the color back from the edge, just hitting the raised knobs of the scales. The object was not to have any straight lines or brush strokes visible and it seemed to work.
