Sculptor: Randy Bowen Company: Dark Horse Scale: 1/6 Material: cold cast porcelain Date Completed: 1996 Comments: Randy Bowen's version of Dr. Frankenstein's creation is my very favorite of that monster. It captures both the humanity and the unnatural aspect of the creature. This model sat in my cabinet for a couple of years just waiting for me to get the skills to handle it properly. Cold cast porcelain is by far the easiest media to prepare. It usually has no seam lines to sand and no pits to fill. This kit went together with minimal effort with the exception of placing the chains which were real metal. I started with a base coat of black and everything else was a series of dry brush layers. Believe it or not, the skin tone is a series of seven different dry brush colors. Most build-ups of this model that I have seen went for a gray skin hue, but I wanted the green that I had pictured in my mind while watching all the old Karloff black and white movies in my childhood. It truly was a pigment of my imagination. |
