Sculptor: Randy Bowen Company: Bowen Designs Scale: ?? Material: porcelain Date Completed: 10/3/98 Comments: Randy Bowen Rules!!!! This guy never ceases to amaze me. His work in the pre-painted arena is the best around without a doubt and he has not forgotten the kit industry to boot. Kongzilla was made available either as a pre-painted piece or as a kit. I use the word kit loosely as it was completed assembled and required absolutely no clean up at all. Out of the box, prime and paint. It is a huge piece and quite dramatic to say the least. The premise behind the model is a creature that is a mix of King Kong and Godzilla. I used a new technique I learned from David Fisher's tapes on this kit. Instead of doing a thin wash to accent the texture, I mixed a deep Godzilla green with acrylic gel to make a thick paste and slopped it on and then wiped the excess off with a disposable towel (don't use a paper towel or you will deposit particles) leaving the crevasses filled. If you don't have David's Modelmania tapes you are living in a vacuum as far as modeling techniques. The techniques I have learned there have greatly enhanced my work and have saved hours. They are available at the Amazing Figure Modelers link on my link page. |
