Date Completed: 1994
Comments: Yes, this was as easy as it looks. No great skill involved, but, face it the Surfer is one cool dude and you got to have at least one in your collection. This early kit from Horizon is the best I've seen of him. It is more the John Buscema style than the Jack Kirby style. The most important thing about doing this model is to make the seam lines invisible in order to maintain the organic metal look. The paint job is very different from my usual method too. I used one of the polishable spray paints available for RC airplanes. First a good coat of black primer then two coats of the silver. Its very important to keep these even. Then I used a soft cloth to polish the highlights to achieve a real metallic look. If you go for the dry brush metal approach in this kit, the Surfer ends up looking like he needs a trip through the robo-car wash. Trust me. I know.
