Skull Soldier

Sculptor: Takayuki Takeya
Company: M-1
Scale: 1/6
Material: vinyl
Date Completed: 1994
Comments: The first of my exotic Japanese figure models. This one came in a plain brown box with some cryptic instructions that were unfortunately in Japanese, so I was on my own from the get go. It was probably what is called a "re-cast" or more properly, a "rip-off". This is where someone takes an piece and produces a unlicensed kit from a casting they make of the original. I do not approve of this and strongly discourage the purchase of such. At the time I got this kit, I didn't know better. It was only after this piece appeared here on my web site, did Anthony Mestas (check out his column "Making The Scene" in the magazine Amazing Figure Modeler) fill me in on the model's sculptor and other info. The company M-1 apparently produces the licensed and official kit, which I hear is better than the re-cast. This model was done before I learned of dry brushing to get good metal effects, hence the very solid color to the silver areas. Compare this model to one of my later ones to see the difference. The character is from a live- action Japanese film which I have never seen.
