Sculptor: Tony McVey Company: Menagerie Scale: 1/6 Material: resin Date Completed: 8/23/98 Comments: Now this is a real piece of art from Tony McVey, who is well known for his dinosaur pieces. The minute I saw this one, I knew I had to have it. One of the most dramatic poses I have seen in years! I did a couple of interesting things in its build-up and painting. The kit has a band on the upper left arm when it comes out of the box that hides the glue seam on that side. The right arm was a straight glue job that left quite a gap in it. Rather than using putty to fill the gap and re-sculpturing the area, I made another band for the right arm out of milliput to match the left arm and hide the seam. I think it turned out quite well. For the snow on the base, I first painted the rocks black and dry brushed them gray, such as I would if I was going to leave it as such. I then applied the white snow using an art sponge, dabbing a little at a time over the area and on his boots. |
